Meet our speakers:
Melissa Kirr, Senior Director of Sustainability
Melissa Kirr (she/her) has spent over 20 years working in the non-profit sector, specifically the environmental and sustainability realms. As Senior Director of Sustainability at Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon, CO, she works at a local, regional, and global level on various sustainability initiatives that include Energy, Climate Action, Sustainable Business Training and Certification, Waste Diversion and Zero Waste programs, and Mountain IDEAL Sustainable Destinations. For the past ten years, Melissa has been coaching and auditing tourism companies and supporting sustainable destination management work in North America. She holds degrees in Forest Resource Management from Pennsylvania State University and the University of Montana. Melissa loves to share her passion for all things sustainable with everyone and to help create positive change.
Gina McCrackin, Climate Action Collaborative Manager
Gina (she/her) is from the Metro-Detroit area in Michigan and received her BS in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources from Colorado State University in 2019, where she also served as the Director of Environmental Affairs for her student government. Her love of the outdoors and passion for environmental justice is what drew her to the Intermountain West to solve issues related to people and their environment. Gina graduated with her MS in Environmental Sociology from Utah State University in May of 2022. For her thesis research, she examined how climate change is discussed differently in Indigenous and Western news outlets in the U.S. As the Climate Action Collaborative Manager, Gina coordinates and supports our large stakeholder group in the implementation of Eagle County’s climate action plan.
Cat Moloney, Sustainability Programs Coordinator
Cat Moloney (she/her) grew up in Ohio and comes from generations of farmers who have instilled in her a reverence for the earth. Cat moved to Eagle County in 2016 to get a change of scenery but after meeting her husband and starting a family, she is lucky enough to call Eagle County her home. Cat found her academic calling in the sustainability program at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards. She graduated in 2023 with a degree in Sustainability Studies. After completing an internship at Walking Mountains, she has continued on as the Sustainability Programs Coordinator for Sustainable Business. Cat works with local businesses to incorporate sustainability best practices in their operations, meet the Actively Green certification, and increase the network of green businesses here in Eagle County.
